Should I play ICARUS in 2024?

The Good

The game has a strong foundation with a huge fixed map to explore, develop, and exploit. The missions in the game are interesting, forcing players to learn and become familiar with the game’s technicalities and gear hierarchy. The game has a massive community of active players, with constant updates and weekly patches. The game has a ton of content in the base game, making it a great choice for players who enjoy survival-crafting games.

The Bad

The game has some notable issues with balance, with some players experiencing lag and crashes. The game’s economy is a focus of criticism, with many DLCs making a lot of content inaccessible without purchase.

The Ugly

The game’s insurance system is a contentious issue, with some players angry about losing hard-earned items without adequate warning or control. The game’s focus on DLCs is also seen as a money-grab, with many players feeling that they are being nickel-and-dimed.

Verdict

Despite some notable issues, Icarus is still a solid survival-crafting game that has a lot to offer players who enjoy the genre. While the game has some balance issues and can be unforgiving for solo players, the game’s massive community, constant updates, and ton of content make it a great choice for players who enjoy survival-crafting games. However, players should be aware of the game’s issues with insurance and DLCs, and whether or not they are willing to tolerate those issues.

In 2024, I would still recommend checking out Icarus as a great survival-crafting game, but with a healthy dose of caution about the game’s issues with balance and DLCs. With patience and dedication, players can still have a lot of fun exploring the game’s vast world, crafting, and surviving against the odds.
